Primo Comandamento: se non conosci l'Etna non parlare! - Do know Etna, before you speak!

Scrivo questo post un po' diverso da quelli puramente informativi del blog perchè... MI SONO STANCATA! 

Da abitante del territorio etneo, sono veramente veramente STANCA di leggere i commenti di migliaia di ignoranti che, ad ogni eruzione, iniziano le solite critiche sterili. Ne elenco qui solo alcune:

"i soliti meridionali che costruite case abusive"

"se costruite dentro un vulcano poi di che vi lamentate?"

"solo i pazzi costruiscono sotto i vulcani"

"ve la siete andata a cercare se vivete nel pericolo"

"signore salvaci!"

"se erutta è colpa del nostro comportamento e dell'inquinamento globale"

Allora, primo comandamento: se non sapete, non giudicate; se non vi informate, non blaterate; e soprattutto SE NON CONOSCETE NULLA DELL'ETNA E DEI VULCANI fate la cortesia di non parlare!

Cominciamo dalla fine.... perchè è forse più grave che l'inizio.  "Signore salvaci, la colpa è dell'inquinamento".... ma scherziamo? I vulcani eruttano perchè eruttano! Espellono materiali fusi che provengono dalle profondità immense del pianeta, e l'inquinamento non ha nessun peso sul loro lavoro. Sono l'espressione massima e più bella della grandezza di Dio. Perchè dovrebbe "salvarci" da qualcosa che lui stesso ha creato così?

E poi, tutti i commenti cretini sull'abusivismo, sulla vicinanza delle case al vulcano... Scomodatevi il sedere, venite qui a vedere come stanno le cose e poi tornate sulle poltrone a parlare. Altrimenti state zitti. Perchè ...

1 - NON CI SONO PAESI ABUSIVI SULL'ETNA: la zona vicina ai crateri è parco naturale protetto e nessuno può costruirci da decenni ormai. Guardate piuttosto le vostre case costruite sugli argini fragili del Po o sulle colline di tufo degli Appennini!

2 - I CENTRI ABITATI DELL'ETNA SONO LONTANISSIMI DAI CRATERI PERICOLOSI, si parla di decine di chilometri; ci vorrebbero anni perchè la lava li raggiungesse. Potete dire lo stesso delle frane alpine sotto le quali vive l'intera "Padania"?

3 - L'UNICO PERICOLO SONO LE ERUZIONI LATERALI, ma sono un pericolo molto più raro rispetto alla esondazione stagionale dei vostri fiumi o alle frane periodiche delle vostre colline o agli incidenti stradali quotidiani! Succedono forse una volta ogni 30 anni e non per forza l'essere "laterali" significa essere "vicino ai paesi". Anche a 3000 metri si può aprire un'eruzione laterale.

4 - L'UOMO COSTRUISCE SOTTO I VULCANI DA MILIONI DI ANNI PERCHE' I VULCANI FORNISCONO SUOLO FERTILE E ACQUA A VOLONTA', quindi non è "pazzia" ma convenienza. Accettando i rischi conseguenti, così come chi abita sul Po accetta il rischio delle alluvioni. 

Anche se molti di noi - di voi - si credono dio onnipotente, non lo sono. Noi umani siamo la parte più piccola e stupida della natura, che ci distrugge quando vuole, abusivi o no. Se vogliamo sfruttarne i vantaggi, dobbiamo convivere con la sua furia. E se succede una calamità, non per forza ci sono "colpe". Spesso c'è solo il destino. E nessuno meglio di noi, che viviamo sotto i vulcani, questo lo sa, lo accetta e lo supera. Quindi... zitti, per favore. ZITTI!

Today, I'm writing this post a little different from the purely informative ones of the blog because... I'M TIRED! As an inhabitant of the Etna area, I'm really really TIRED of reading the comments of thousands of ignorant people who, after any single eruption, start the usual sterile criticisms. I list here just a few: 

 "you Sicilians, who built illegal houses" 

 "if you build inside a volcano then what are you complaining about?" 

 "only fools build under volcanoes" 

 "You went to look for it if you live in danger" 

 "Lord save us!" 

 "if it erupts it is the fault of our behavior and global pollution" 

So, first commandment: if you don't know, don't judge; if you don't inform yourself, don't blather; and above all IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ETNA AND THE VOLCANOES, do the courtesy not to speak! 

 Let's start from the end.... because it is perhaps more serious than the beginning. "Lord save us, pollution is to blame".... are we kidding? Volcanoes erupt because they erupt! They expel molten materials that come from the immense depths of the planet, and pollution has no effect on their work. They are the maximum and most beautiful expression of God's greatness. Why should he "save" us from something that he himself created this way? 

And then, all the idiotic comments about illegal houses, about the proximity of the towns to the volcano... Move your backs, come here to see how things are and then go back to your seats to talk. Otherwise, please, do shut up. Because ... 

1 - THERE ARE NO ABUSIVE/ILLEGAL TOWNS BUILT ON MT. ETNA: the area near the craters is a protected natural park and no one has built anything there for decades now. Rather look at your houses built on the fragile banks of the rivers or on the tufa hills of the Apennines! 

2 - THE TOWNS OF ETNA ARE VERY FAR FROM THE DANGEROUS CRATERS, we are talking about tens of kilometres; it would take years for the lava to reach them. Can you say the same of the alpine landslides under which the entire "North" lives? 

3 - THE ONLY DANGER ARE SIDE ERUTIONS, but they are a much rarer danger than the seasonal flooding of your rivers or the periodic landslides of your hills or daily road accidents! They happen maybe once every 30 years and not necessarily being "lateral" means being "near the towns". Even at 3000 meters asl a lateral eruption can start. 

4 - HUMANS HAVE BEEN BUILDING UNDER/NEAR VOLCANOES FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS BECAUSE VOLCANOES PROVIDE FERTILE SOIL AND WATER, so it's not "madness" but convenience for us to live here. By accepting the consequent risks, just as those who live on the rivers accept the risk of floods. 

Even though many of us - of you - believe they are God Almighty, well ... they are not. We humans are the smallest and stupidest part of nature, which destroys us when it wants, legal houses or not. If we want to enjoy its benefits, we must live also with its fury. And if a calamity happens, it doesn't necessarily have to be "faults". Often, it is only fate. And no one better than us, who live under volcanoes, know this, accept it and overcome it. So... shut up, please. SHUT-THE HELL-UP!
