I SEPOLCRI - THE SACRED TOMBS

Dopo una lunga pausa dovuta a un grande dolore che ha colpito chi scrive, e dopo lunghi giorni al "buio", pensando solo al grande vuoto che rimane ... torno ad aggiornare il blog di SICILIA MUSE CULTURE. Perchè in qualche modo si deve andare avanti. E perchè questa terra bellissima, che è la mia, è anche la terra che mio padre ha amato ogni giorno della sua vita. E nel suo ricordo, la mia "Pasqua" ricomincia da qui.

I SEPOLCRI sono una tradizione cattolica che in modo particolare nel Sud Italia è molto sentita. Nei tre giorni che precedono la Pasqua, l'ostia consacrata viene spostata in un altare particolare che simboleggia "il sepolcro di Cristo". 

Anticamente spogli, anzi, spesso circondati dalla "devastazione" (candele cadute, tovaglie scivolate) a simboleggiare il terremoto del momento in cui Cristo spirò... oggi vengono invece adornati con composizioni di candele e di fiori, a volte accompagnate da disegni fatti con chicchi di grano. Tradizione vuole che la gente sosti davanti a questi "sepolcri" e preghi. Il "giro dei sepolcri" prevede un numero sempre dispari .... cinque (in onore delle piaghe di Cristo) oppure sette (in onore dei dolori di Maria). Dove tradizione e religione sforano i confini, la gente dichiara di visitare "un numero dispari di sepolcri perchè in numero pari porta male!"

After a long break due to a great pain that affected the writer, and after long days in the "dark", thinking only of the great void that remains in my life ... here I return to update the SICILIA MUSE CULTURE blog. Because somehow I have to move forward. And also because this beautiful land of Sicily, which is my homeland, is also the land of my father's, the land that my father has been loving every day of his life. Till the last one.  And in memory of him, in honor of him, my brand new "Easter" begins with this text, about ... 

THE SACRED TOMBS are a Catholic tradition which is deeply felt in Southern Italy in particular. In the three days preceding Easter, these particular altars which symbolize "the tomb of Christ" are adorned with compositions of candles and flowers, sometimes accompanied by drawings made with wheat grains. 

Tradition has it that people stop in front of these "tombs" and pray. The "tour of the tombs" always goes with a specific odd number... five (in honor of Christ's wounds) or seven (in honor of Mary's sorrows).
