Gli anelli al tramonto - Sunset Rings

 

L'Etna romantica espelle anelli, al tramonto. In realtà, li espelle spesso... anzi in questi giorni continuamente... facendo di un fenomeno vulcanico raro qualcosa di unico e straordinario. Come sempre sa fare. Perchè questo vulcano, che sembra quasi umano, regala emozioni sempre.

Gli "anelli" sono in realtà gas vulcanici espulsi a grande velocità e potenza nel corso dell'aumento della degassazione. Quando il gas percorre rapidamente le pareti circolari di un cratere, nel momento dell'espulsione, continua a roteare in aria assumendo così questa forma ad anello... finché il vento d'alta quota non lo disperderà. Gli anelli di gas sono tipici dei vulcani, ma si vedono di rado. E quando si vedono, il fenomeno dura poche ore soltanto.

Sull'Etna no. Sull'Etna sono ormai mesi che questi anelli fanno la loro bella comparsa nel cielo. E nelle ultime settimane, gli anelli sono diventati tantissimi e vengono espulsi continuamente, senza sosta. A Romantic Etna expels rings at sunset. In fact, it expels them often...  these days, continuously... making a rare volcanic phenomenon something unique and extraordinary. As it always does. Because this volcano, which seems almost human, always gives emotions.

The "rings" are actually volcanic gases expelled with great speed and power in the course of increased degassing activity. When the gas rapidly travels along the circular walls of a crater, at the moment of expulsion, it continues to rotate in the air, thus assuming this ring shape... until the high altitude wind disperses it. Gas rings are typical of volcanoes, but are rarely visible. And when they can be seen, the phenomenon only lasts a few hours.

Not on Mount Etna, though. On Etna, these rings have been making their beautiful appearance in the sky for months now. And in recent weeks, the rings have become numerous and are being expelled continuously, no stop. A show that adds charm and magic to a volcano which is already fascinating and magical itself.
