Verranno anche quest'anno, a dicembre, come sempre. Le folle di turisti che cercano in Sicilia qualcosa di particolare per le feste invernali, spesso arrivando sull'isola con un bagaglio pieno di stereotipi. Verranno anche quest'anno e vorranno trovare alcune cose che si aspettano. E se non le troveranno si sentiranno delusi. Ecco perchè, secondo noi, non dovrebbero!
COSA SI ASPETTANO I TURISTI A NATALE, IN SICILIA
Vengono qui per poter fare "un po' di mare" perchè qualcuno gli ha detto che qui si nuota tutto l'anno. E sebbene sia vero che il caldo dura a lungo, a volte fino a novembre inoltrato, non è mai vero che l'acqua del mare sia tanto calda da fare il bagno a Natale!
Vengono qui per mangiare le prelibatezze gastronomiche della tradizione siciliana che, specialmente sotto le feste, si arricchisce di molti elementi saporiti. E magari si stupiranno perchè in alcune località i cannoli non rispettano lo stereotipo di "ricotta e pistacchio" che loro desiderano e la cassata non esiste.
Vengono qui e si aspettano le grandi città d'arte, i monumenti storici come la Valle dei Templi, come il Duomo di Palermo, quello di Catania, musei, castelli, palazzi nobiliari e villini liberty da esplorare.
Vengono qui e si aspettano eventi, concerti, brindisi, discoteche ... le stesse cose che lasciano nelle loro città di origine, solo in chiave più esotica e spesso più ... gratuita!
COSA TROVERANNO I TURISTI A NATALE, IN SICILIA
Preparatevi perchè potreste trovare molto freddo. Anche molta pioggia e non è escluso che in alcune zone più elevate (Taormina, Etna, Ragusa) si affacci perfino la neve in certi anni. Non nuotiamo tutto l'anno, anzi in inverno spesso andiamo a scivolare sugli sci o sugli slittini nei paesini dell'interno.
Troverete molte prelibatezze tipiche siciliane, ma non troverete certamente quei dolci che per noi sono "tipici primaverili", come appunto la cassata! E i cannoli con la ricotta sono tradizione, certo, ma a Natale vanno di moda più quelli al cioccolato ... che non sono male! Vi consigliamo anche le paste di mandorla, che proprio sotto le feste sfoggiano forme, colori e gusti tutti da scoprire!
Potrete naturalmente visitare tutti i principali luoghi storici e le bellezze artistiche conosciute delle principali città siciliane, ma se non andrete a trascorrere almeno una mezza giornata in un piccolo paese di provincia, o dell'entroterra, non avrete visto nulla dello spirito natalizio siciliano.
Dimenticate le discoteche, gli eventi affollati e i brindisi rumorosi. Andate a cercare le antiche tradizioni ... gli zampognari messinesi, i falò delle campagne catanesi, i canti della novena intonati dagli anziani del siracusano, del ragusano, i meravigliosi presepi viventi di Enna, Caltanissetta e Agrigento. E se per vedere alcune di queste tradizioni si paga, non fate come se non ve lo sareste mai aspettato.
Lasciate la vostra idea di Sicilia oltre stretto ... ed entrate in quest'isola, a Natale, con la mente libera e bianca da riempire di incredibili imprevisti.

The crowds of tourists looking for something special in Sicily for the winter holidays, often arriving on the island with a baggage full of stereotypes. They will come again this year and want to find all the things they expect. And if they don't find them they will feel disappointed. Here's why, in our opinion, they shouldn't!
WHAT TOURISTS EXPECT AT CHRISTMAS, IN SICILY
They come here to do "a few days on the beach" because someone told them that you swim here all year round. And although it is true that the heat lasts a long time, sometimes until late November, it is never true that the sea water is warm enough to swim at Christmas!
They come here to eat the gastronomic delicacies of the Sicilian tradition which, especially during the holidays, are enriched with many tasty elements. And perhaps they will be surprised because in some places cannoli does not respect the stereotype of "ricotta and pistachio" that they desire and cassata does not exist.
They come here and expect the great cities of art, historical monuments such as the Valley of the Temples, such as the Cathedral of Palermo, that of Catania, museums, castles, noble palaces and Art Nouveau villas to explore.
They come here and expect events, concerts, toasts, discos... the same things they leave in their cities of origin, only in a more exotic shape and... free!
WHAT TOURISTS WILL FIND AT CHRISTMAS, IN SICILY
Be prepared because you may find it very cold. Also a lot of rain and it is not excluded that in some higher areas (Taormina, Etna, Ragusa) there may even be snow, in certain years. We don't swim all year round, in fact in winter we often go skiing or sledging in the inland mountain villages.
You will find many typical Sicilian delicacies, but you will certainly not find those desserts that for us are "typical spring", such as cassata! And cannoli with ricotta are traditional, of course, but at Christmas the chocolate ones are more fashionable... which aren't bad too! We also recommend almond pastries, which especially during the holidays show off shapes, colors and flavors waiting to be discovered!
You can of course visit all the main historical places and the best known artistic beauties of the main Sicilian cities, but if you don't spend at least half a day in a small country town, or in the hinterland, you won't have seen anything of the Sicilian Christmas spirit.
Forget about nightclubs, crowded events and loud toasts. Go and look for the ancient traditions... the bagpipes of Messina, the bonfires of the Catania countryside, the Christmas songs sung by the elders of the Syracuse area, the Ragusa area, the wonderful living nativity scenes of Enna, Caltanissetta and Agrigento. And if you will be asked to pay tickets for admiring such traditions, don't look at us as if you did not expect it.
Leave your idea of Sicily behind ... and enter this island, at Christmas, with a free and blank mind to be filled with incredible unexpected events.
