Il vero galantuomo - Real Gentlemen

"Per il vero galantuomo, ogni paese diventa patria". Non serve spiegare più di tanto questo bellissimo motto siciliano che esalta l'onestà e l'educazione. Chiunque si comporta da galantuomo, o da gentil donna per il sesso opposto, ogni luogo della terra diventa patria, cioè casa, perché saprà farsi apprezzare. Un proverbio che si oppone a quello che invece indica come l'uomo tronfio e pieno di sé "camina e si mafìa chianu chianu" (cammina per la piazza "mafiandosi" tutto). Notate l'uso del termine "mafiarsi" assolutamente in senso dispregiativo. Non c'è da meravigliarsi che sia usato per descrivere certe famiglie di malaffare. Meglio dunque essere galantuomini, onesti sempre.

"To the real gentleman, every Country is his Homeland". We don't need to explain this Sicilian motto that celebrates education, politeness and honest behaviour. Those who are gentlemen - and gentle women - may find a home in every place on Earth, because everyone loves them. This old saying is the opposite to another one that says how  presumptuous and arrogant men "walk around mafiazing themselves". Pay attention to the word "mafia" here used as a verb and of course in a negative meaning. The person who "mafiazes himself" is the person who believes to be God on Earth. A nasty person, a bad one. Much better being a gentleman, having "home" everywhere rahter than a mafia man.
