Caccamo (Palermo) è una cittadina tipica medievale, pochi abitanti ... circa 8.000 ... e molta arte, molta tranquillità, colline da una parte e il mare a 10km di distanza dall'altra. Un nome buffo che forse deriva dal greco "Kakkabe" (pentolone) o dall'arabo "Kakum" che indicava l'albero di loto. Un mastodontico castello del 12° secolo che sarebbe solo l'ennesimo bel monumento da ammirare, in una Sicilia di altri tempi che a volte lascia senza parole, se qui non ci fosse molto di più.
Nel 1160, infatti, uno dei primi padroni del castello Matteo Bonello cadde vittima di una congiura da parte di re Guglielmo I. L'uomo venne torturato e ucciso nelle segrete del proprio castello e a quanto pare ancora oggi il suo fantasma si aggira tra quelle mura. Molte le testimonianze che lo hanno avvistato, solitamente al tramonto o di sera, e che hanno descritto ... più che una immagine... alcune sensazioni. Improvvisamente, prima che lo spettro compaia, sale la tensione, si viene presi da una rabbia e da un odio ingiustificati. Poi si sente il rumore di qualcosa che viene trascinato e appare una figura di uomo che cammina zoppicando.
Ma a questo castello è legata anche la leggenda della suora.
Una giovane ragazza, figlia di uno dei tanti signori che dopo Bonello possedettero il maniero, cercò di fuggire dal castello per raggiungere il suo innamorato, un soldato di ventura. Il padre la scoprì, corse a riprenderla e la costrinse a entrare in convento. La ragazza, però, morì pochi anni dopo per il grande dolore di aver perso per sempre il suo amore. Da allora, di notte, la gente giura di aver visto spesso il fantasma di una donna aggirarsi tra l'ingresso del castello e una delle sue alte torri. Se la incontrate, vi inseguirà per costringervi a mangiare il melograno, frutto dell'amore... che se viene lasciato cadere costringerà a una vita di solitudine e a vagare per sempre nella notte! Anche qui, la gente ha riferito di "sensazioni" più che di visioni ... una grande tristezza e la sensazione di essere seguiti e osservati da lontano.

In 1160, in fact, one of the first owners of the castle -Matteo Bonello- fell victim to a conspiracy led by King Guillaume I. He was tortured and killed in the prisons of his own castle and apparently his ghost still wanders within the walls . Many witnesses who have seen it, usually at dusk or at night, more than an image describe "feelings". Suddenly, before the spirit appears, tension rises, you feel like taken from a big rage and unjustified hatred. Then you hear the sound of something being dragged and see a figure of a man walking with a limp.
But this castle is also linked to the legend of the young nun.
A young woman, daughter of one of the many gentlemen who owned the manor after Bonello, tried to escape from the castle to reach her lover, a soldier. Her father found out, ran and took her back home, then forced her to enter a convent. The girl, however, died a few years later to the great sorrow of having lost her only love forever. Since then, at night, people often swear to see the ghost of a woman somewhere between the entrance of the castle and one of its towers. When you meet her, she tries to chase you and force you to eat the pomegranate, the fruit of love ... that, if dropped, condemns you to a life of solitude! Even here, people have reported "feelings" rather than visions ... a great sadness and a feeling of being followed and observed from a distance.
Ghosts and mysteries aside, Caccamo is also a city full of history that you can read on the website of the town, unfortunately only written in Italian.
