Etna Photo Meeting FINALE---Statue e piedistalli

Tante persone, tante mani, tante teste... la foto di Lorenzo&Antonio D'Agata che vedete in alto riassume in un solo scatto quello che è un evento come l'Etna Photo Meeting. Evento tutto siciliano che esalta la fotografia nazionale e che è formato da grandi nomi e da piccole formichine che lavorano dietro le quinte. Ideato dai fondatori del Gruppo Fotografico Le Gru 24 anni fa, è iniziato con pochi mezzi e mai ci si sarebbe immaginati di ospitare tra le sue fila un giorno un "dio" come Ferdinando Scianna! Un evento nato da quattro amici al bar, o meglio seduti in un salotto, senza troppe pretese e portato al successo dall'impegno e dall'entusiasmo di decine di altri amici che negli anni si sono uniti a quei quattro e a chi è venuto dopo.  Celebrare Scianna va benissimo, è giusto, come rendere onore a Merlak, a Pitrone, a Lauria, a Zummo, a Strano e a tanti altri nomi che in Sicilia o dalla Sicilia o grazie alla Sicilia hanno reso grande la fotografia. Ma alla fine della nostra piccola cronaca occorre celebrare quei tanti soci senza nomi altisonanti che ogni giorno hanno preso in mano un cacciavite, un martello, un sacco della spazzatura, una scopa, una penna, un portafogli, un computer, un cavo elettrico, una presa a muro, un pacco di caramelle, acqua fresca portata al momento giusto, un "selz" per l'amico assetato ... tutti quei soci vecchi e nuovi che sono passati solo per un saluto, solo per chiedere "come stai oggi?",  che hanno chiamato da Palermo per dire "se volete vi aiuto" ... che erano lì  per consolarti nei momenti di panico e per ridere con te quando tutto gira dritto. Come ha detto il mio saggio amico Antonio Torrisi, proprio stamattina: "Nessuno guarderebbe una bella statua se non ci fosse un piedistallo sotto che la regge". Grazie, quindi, ai tantissimi piedistalli silenziosi che hanno reso visibile questo meeting, successo incomparabile della volontà di ferro di Ferdinando Portuese. Il presidente ha issato la statua e in tanti... davvero tantitantitantitanti... l'abbiamo tenuta in piedi. E' un onore e un piacere essere stata, con Sicilia Muse Culture, un piedistallo insieme a  tutti voi. VIVA LE GRU.

Many people, many hands, many heads ... the photo by Lorenzo & Antonio D'Agata that you see above,  summarizes in one shot what is an event like the Etna Photo Meeting. An all-Sicilian event that enhances national photography and consists of big names and many little ants working behind the scenes. Created by the founders of the Photographic Group Le Gru 24 years ago, it started with very few means and no one would have ever imagined to host -among its ranks- a "god" like Ferdinando Scianna, someday! An event created by four friends at a café table, or rather sitting in a living room, without too many expectations and brought to success by the commitment and enthusiasm of dozens of other friends who joined the four and those who came later. Celebrating Scianna is fine, it is right, so as to honor names like Merlak, Pitrone, Lauria, Zummo, Strano and many other names that in Sicily or from Sicily or thanks to Sicily have made photography great. But at the end of our little chronicle we must celebrate those many simple members without high-sounding names who every day have picked up a screwdriver, a hammer, a trash bag, a broom, a pen, a wallet, a computer, an electric cable, a wall socket, a pack of candies, bottles of water  brought at the right time, a "selz lemonade" for the thirsty friend ... all those old and new members who have just come to visit for a greeting, just to ask "how are you today? ", or called from Palermo to say " if you want any help, I'll be there for you "... who  were there to console you in moments of panic and to laugh with you when everything goes right. As one of my wise friends said, just this morning: "No one looks at a beautiful standing statue if there is not a pedestal underneath that holds it". Thanks, therefore, to the many silent pedestals that have made this meeting visible and an incomparable success started from the iron will of our president, Ferdinando Portuese. The president has put the statue up high, and many ... really MANYMANYMANYMANY ... other people have held it standing. It was an honor and a pleasure, with Sicilia Muse Culture, to have been another pedestal together with all of you. LONG LIVE "LE GRU"!

Etna Photo Meeting 3---Libri faciunt labra

Tanti bravissimi siciliani in mostra, ancora oggi e fino al 10 giugno, all'Etna Photo Meeting di Aci Bonaccorsi, gestito dal Gruppo Fotografico Le Gru. Arriva da Palermo il fotografo di scena Martino Zummo che con la sua macchina però ritrae molto più di sfondi e prove teatrali. La sua mostra "In Viaggio" ci porta alla scoperta di luoghi che raccontano, con le espressioni di chi li vive, storie di ieri e di oggi. E' catanese Valeria Laudani che con il suo "Attimi, Sicilia di Poesia" traduce in immagini i versi che lei stessa pensa e trasforma in poesia, tra un vicolo di Catania e un basso, tra una scena di fiera e giochi di strada. Ninì Agnini scattava foto negli anni Trenta e poi negli anni Cinquanta, Sessanta ... foto "di famiglia" ma realizzate con una cura e precisione che rasentano la professionalità.

Un discorso a parte merita Roberto Strano (immagine in basso), fotografo di Caltagirone che "racconta" storie di vite vissute tramite gli sguardi e le civetterie malinconiche di una casa di riposo col suo "De Senectute", mostra realizzata con stampe in sali d'argento. Di tutti questi racconti ci racconterà --e il gioco di parole è voluto!-- anche l'avvocato Pippo Pappalardo, critico fotografico di alto spessore, questa sera 6 giugno, spiegandoci anche l'inerenza col titolo in latino che contraddistingue l'intera mostra 2018. 

Many talented Sicilians on exhibition, still today and until June 10, at the Etna Photo Meeting of Aci Bonaccorsi, managed by the Photographic Group Le Gru. The stage photographer Martino Zummo arrives from Palermo, but with his camera he portrays much more than theatrical backgrounds and rehearsals. His exhibition "In Viaggio" leads us to the discovery of places that tell, with the expressions of those who live them, stories of yesterday and today.  Valeria Laudani lives in Catania and with her "Attimi, Sicily of Poetry" translates into images the verses that she herself thinks and turns into poetry, between an alley of Catania and a poor house, between a scene of fair and street games. Ninì Agnini took photos in the 1930s and then in the Fifties, Sixties ... "family" photos but taken with such a care and precision that make them very professional.

Roberto Strano (SMALL PHOTO ABOVE), a Caltagirone photographer , deserves a specific mention: his pictures "tell" stories of long lives experienced through the melancholic looks and emotions of a retirement home with his "De Senectute", an exhibition realized with silver salts photos. About all these tales will tell us - and the game of words IS on purpose! - even the lawyer Pippo Pappalardo, a smart and sensitive photographic critic, this evening June 6, explaining also the inherence with the  Latin title that distinguishes the entire exhibition 2018 .

Etna Photo Meeting 2--Romanzi in foto

Angelo Pitrone è un altro autore in mostra all'Etna Photo Meeting di Aci Bonaccorsi. Nato ad Agrigento nel 1955, ha sempre sentito la passione per il paesaggio ma inteso come visione che "racconta" non come banale foto delle vacanze. I suoi scatti di mare, di campo, di montagna e di città raccontano opere letterarie del passato e, chissà, del futuro. Tra una lezione e l'altra all'Università di Palermo, dove insegna Tecnica Fotografica, Pitrone viaggia per la nostra isola e immortala paesaggi che ricordano Pirandello (foto piccola in basso a destra), Tomasi di Lampedusa, Verga ...perché descritti da loro. Ma ha anche usato la fotografia per denunciare. La siccità, la conidizione delle campagne, gli arrivi di tanti disperati costretti a fuggire e morire in mare (foto grande in alto), ieri come oggi. Tra i suoi libri: I LUOGHI DEL ROMANZO ... le cui foto sono in mostra ad Aci Bonaccorsi...., MIGRANTI, CONVIVIO, LINEA DI TERRA, PIRANDELLO E I LUOGHI DEL CAOS.

Angelo Pitrone is another author on exhibition at the Etna Photo Meeting of Aci Bonaccorsi. Born in Agrigento in 1955, he always felt the passion for the landscape but intended as a vision that "tells" not as a trivial holiday picture. His shots of sea, field, mountain and city tell literary works of the past and, perhaps, of the future too. Between one lesson and another at the University of Palermo, where he teaches Photographic Technique, Pitrone travels around throughout our island and immortalises landscapes that recall writers as Pirandello (small photo above, on the right), Tomasi di Lampedusa, Verga ... because described by them. But he has also used photography to report. The drought, the conidition of the countryside, the arrivals of so many desperate people forced to flee and die at sea (big picture at the top), yesterday and today. Among his books: I LUOGHI DEL ROMANZO (THE PLACES OF NOVEL) ... whose photos are on exhibition at Aci Bonaccorsi until June 10th ...., MIGRANTI, CONVIVIO, LINEA DI TERRA, PIRANDELLO E I LUOGHI DEL CAOS.

Etna Photo Meeting 1---FERDINANDO SCIANNA

Inizia da oggi la nostra cronaca attraverso l'evento fotografico siciliano dell'anno... l'Etna Photo Meeting del Gruppo Le Gru, che quest'anno -dal 1 al 10 giugno- si svolge presso Palazzo Recupero-Cutore ad Aci Bonaccorsi (Catania).

CONOSCIAMO FERDINANDO SCIANNA, premio "Le Gru" del 2018, e grande firma dello scatto non solo italiano ma mondiale. Nasce a Bagheria nel 1943 e a diciannove anni è uno studente di Lettere dell'Università di Palermo. La fotografia è il suo hobby ma anche il suo modo di esprimere un mondo interiore ricchissimo e intenso, per un giovane di quell'età. Se ne accorge per primo Leonardo Sciascia che, per caso, nota una sua mostra reportage su una festa di paese e intuisce il potenziale del ragazzo. Lo aiuta a pubblicare il primo libro fotografico e lo lancia verso il successo. A 24 anni Scianna arriva a Milano e lavora prima come inviato giornalista, poi come fotografo di moda, sebbene la sua passione resti il reportage tra la gente, per le vie, meglio se nelle periferie o in provincia! Il lavoro lo porta a Parigi dove viene in  contatto con Cartier-Bresson che lo introduce nel mondo della Magnum, facendo di lui l'unico italiano membro della prestigiosa agenzia fotografica americana. Autore di numerosi libri, carattere forte ma allo stesso tempo semplice, Scianna concepisce la fotografia come qualcosa di insito nella vita di tutti i giorni, non una filosofia distante per pochi eletti. Non ha mai rinnegato la fortuna che lo ha aiutato, insieme alla bravura. Una sua frase celebre: La mia vita è la storia straordinaria di persone incomparabilmente migliori di me che hanno creduto in me. E io, che ho la vocazione della cozza, quando ho trovato uno scoglio buono mi sono attaccato!

Come and follow us in our chronicle through the photographic event of the year, in Sicily ... the "Etna Photo Meeting" of the Le Gru Group, which this year - from 1 to 10 June - takes place at Palazzo Recupero-Cutore in Aci Bonaccorsi ( Catania).

LET US INTRODUCE: FERDINANDO SCIANNA, the "Le Gru" award of 2018, and one of the greatest names of modern photography, not only in Italy but worldwide. He was born in Bagheria, near Palermo, in 1943 and at the age of 19 he was a student of Literature at the University of Palermo. Photography was his hobby but also his way of expressing a rich inner world, very intense for a young person of that age in the 1960s. 

Writer Leonardo Sciascia was the first to notice, by chance,  his reportage exhibition about a village religious festival and he sensed the boy's potential. He helped him to publish the first photo book and launched him towards success. At 24, Scianna arrived in Milan and worked first as a journalist, then as a fashion photographer, although his passion remained the reportage among the people, in the streets, better if in the suburbs or in the province! His work took him to Paris, where he came in contact with Cartier-Bresson, who introduced him into the world of Magnum, making him the only Italian member of the prestigious American photographic agency. Author of numerous books, a strong but at the same time simple character, Scianna conceives photography as something inherent  everyday life, not a distant philosophy for a few intellectuals. He has never denied the luck that helped him, along with his skill. One of his famous sentences: "My life is the extraordinary story of incomparably great people, better than me, who believed in me. And I have the vocation of the mussel, so when I find a good rock I ... I just ... stuck to it!"
