Sicilia, regione... nazione? - Sicily, a region and... a nation?

 

Il 15 maggio, qui in Sicilia, si celebra il Giorno della Regione Siciliana, fino a qualche anno fa considerato festivo "rosso" sul calendario (con scuole e uffici chiusi). Una celebrazione che vuole sottolineare l'importanza di questo risultato raggiunto... ovvero una regione forte, determinante, talmente autonoma da essere quasi equiparata ad uno stato federato. 

Eppure ... 

Eppure abbiamo ben poco da festeggiare, fuori dalla carta. Perchè la enorme autonomia, che il nostro Statuto Speciale varato nel 1946 ci garantisce, non è stata mai applicata nei fatti. O meglio, è stata applicata nelle banalità che fanno gola ai politici (per esempio, ai nostri consiglieri regionali spetta per statuto il nome di "onorevoli" e i compensi dei nostri governanti, per statuto, sono elevati come quelli dei parlamentari nazionali). A differenza del Trentino-Alto Adige dove, con uno statuto molto meno potente, le due province locali agiscono e si comportano di fatto come una vera nazione indipendente, la Sicilia ha lasciato marcire nella polvere uno Statuto che è un vero e proprio gioiello.

Sapevate che lo Statuto Siciliano consente alle tasse dei siciliani di restare in regione e di essere usate in favore della regione stessa? Sapevate che lo Statuto Siciliano dà potere al governatore della nostra regione di ricandidarsi liberamente senza fare le tradizionali "consultazioni" con i propri capi partito di Roma? Sapevate che la Sicilia ha il potere di utilizzare per se stessa le fonti energetiche che essa produce? E allora, Santo Dio, PERCHE' ABBIAMO LASCIATO MORIRE TUTTO?

Per l'avidità dei nostri politici, ancora servi coloniali del passato. Per loro, Palermo è solo un trampolino di lancio verso Roma, che è il loro vero obiettivo. Vivono ancora con la mentalità servile che "la grande città è il premio finale"........mentre il premio lo hanno da sempre sotto gli occhi - il potere ASSOLUTO che lo Statuto gli concede in Sicilia - e non lo usano!

La Sicilia è diventata parte dell'Italia nel 1860, dopo quasi 900 anni di vita da nazione indipendente. Nel Medioevo abbiamo avuto noi, per primi in Europa, un vero Parlamento democratico. Il 15 maggio 1946 abbiamo firmato lo Statuto dell'Autonomia per ritrovare la via verso il nostro essere nazione..........cosa è successo dopo?

Comunque, pure se col cuore pesante... BUONA FESTA DELLA REGIONE.

E che la Triscèle illumini le menti di chi siederà in futuro a Palermo. Abbiamo già perso fin troppo tempo.

On May 15th, here in Sicily, we celebrate the Sicilian Region Day, a day that a few years ago was still considered a main holiday on the calendar (with schools and offices closed). This celebration aims to underline the importance of this achievement... namely, a strong, decisive region, so autonomous as to be almost equivalent to a federate state.

But...

But we have very little to celebrate, outside of the official papers. Because the enormous autonomy that our Special Statute, approved in 1946, guarantees in theory has never been applied in practice. Or rather, it has been applied in the stupid things that tempt politicians (for example, our regional councilors are by statute entitled "honorables", and their salaries, by statute, are as high as those of national politicians). Unlike region Trentino-Alto Adige - where, with a much less powerful statute, the two local provinces effectively act and behave like a truly independent nation - Sicily has allowed a wonderful Statute to rot in the dust.

Did you know that the Sicilian Statute allows Sicilians' taxes to remain in the region and be used for the region's benefit? Did you know that the Sicilian Statute empowers the governor of our region to freely run for re-election without the traditional "consultations" with his party leaders in Rome? Did you know that Sicily has the power to use its own energy sources for itself? So, good Lord, WHY DID WE LET EVERYTHING DIE? Because of the greed of our politicians, still colonial servants of the past. For them, our capital Palermo is merely a stepping stone to get to Rome, which is their true goal. They still live with the servile mentality that "the big city is the ultimate prize"...when they've always had the prize before their eyes—the ABSOLUTE power the Statute grants them in Sicily—and they have never used it!

Sicily became part of Italy in 1860, after nearly 900 years as an independent nation. In the Middle Ages, we were the first in Europe to have a truly democratic Parliament. On May 15th, 1946, we signed the Statute of Autonomy in order to rediscover our "being a nation"... what happened next?

However, even with a heavy heart... HAPPY SICILIAN REGION DAY.

And may the Triscèle (the woman with three legs which is the symbol of our island) enlighten the minds of those who will sit in Palermo in the future. We have already wasted far too much time.
