Il pozzo di Aci&Galatea --Acis&Galathea's well

Riporta il quotidiano "La Repubblica" che durante dei lavori di scavo nell'area archeologica di S.Venera al Pozzo (Aci Catena, CT) è venuta alla luce una fonte sotterranea che erutta acque calde, sicuramente sulfuree, di uno strano colore rossastro. L'hanno scoperta il direttore degli scavi, Carmelo Di Stefano, e l'archeologa Susanna Amari. I due sono sicuri che sia questa l'antichissima fonte che ha ispirato proprio in queste zone il mito di Aci e Galatea. Il rosso, dovuto ai sali di zolfo e al ferro presente nella fonte vulcanica, fece pensare agli antichi Greci che qui si fosse consumato un sacrificio con molto sangue (il sangue di Aci) e da qui la leggenda del suo amore infelice con la ninfa del mare Galatea. La cosa bella è che al centro della fonte rossa, di tanto in tanto, scoppia una bolla di schiuma bianca... come a confermare che Aci e Galatea si sono davvero uniti per sempre nell'acqua!! 

"Lavorando vicino alla fonte si percepisce una strana vibrazione nell'aria" aveva dichiarato DiStefano "come una misteriosa forza elettromagnetica che a volte sembrava quasi un suono". 

C'è davvero qualcosa di magico in questo luogo... ma nessuno se n'è accorto. Se lo sono conteso per anni Acireale e Aci Catena e oggi è chiuso al pubblico. Si apre solo ogni tanto, in estate, per fare spettacolini di cabaret. Mentre sotto la terra ribolle il mistero e la storia....!

The newspaper "La Repubblica" recently reported about the new discovery during the excavation in the archaeological area of ​​St.Venera al Pozzo (near the town of Aci Catena, Sicily) where has come to light an underground source erupting hot water. The spring is definitely sulphurous, with a strange reddish color (THE PHOTO ABOVE DOES NOT SHOW IT, IN FACT). The excavation director, Carmelo Di Stefano, and the archaeologist Susanna Amari found it and they are pretty sure that this is the ancient source that has inspired in these areas the myth of Acis and Galathea. The red, due to sulphur salts and to iron in the water, made the ancient Greeks believe that here a sacrifice with much blood had been consumed (the blood of Aci) and from there the legend of his unhappy love with the nymph  Galathea. The nice thing is that in the center of the red source, from time to time, a burst of white foam bubbles ... as if to confirm that Acis and Galathea were really united forever in the water !!

"By working close to the source you will feel a strange vibration in the air,"  said DiStefano "as a mysterious electromagnetic force that at times seemed almost a sound".

There really is something magical about this place ... but nobody has noticed. The place was contended for years by both Acireale and Aci Catena and is now closed to the public. It opens only every now and then, in the summer, to make little show cabaret. While under the ground mystery and history keep boiling....!
